Over 574,000 Migrants Return via Islam Qala Border in Past 22 Days
The Public Information Officer of the Committee for Migrant Affairs in Herat reports that a total of 574,241 Afghan migrants have returned to the country through the Islam Qala border over the past 22 days. Mawlawi Ahmadullah Muttaqi, Head of Information and Culture in Herat and the official responsible for public awareness for the migrant affairs committee, stated that the return process continues on a daily basis. According to Mawlawi Muttaqi, of the total number, 234,907 individuals returned voluntarily, while 339,334 were deported from Iran bringing the overall total to 574,241 returnees. According to reports, on Sunday 7,775 migrants returned voluntarily and 13,262 were deported, making the total number of returnees for that day 21,037. In this case, Mawlawi Muttaqi emphasized that government agencies and charitable organizations, in coordination with the Committee for Migrant Affairs, continue to provide urgent services and essential support to migrants at the Islam Qala border and other key locations. This comes as the Deputy Spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate recently announced the allocation of 1.5 billion Afghanis to support returning migrants.
