Polio Vaccination Campaign Launched in Balkh Public Health Department


During the program, Rahmatullah Mansour, head of Balkh Public Health, stated that polio is a severe and highly contagious viral disease. Most children under the age of five contract this disease. Our goal is to eradicate this infectious disease from the population because children under five in our country are still affected.

Mr. Mansour added, that in this round of polio vaccination, all children under five years old in Balkh province and its districts will be covered to ensure that no child in this region contracts polio.

Further more, in this campaign, more than 500,000 children under the age of five are expected to receive the polio vaccine along with mebendazole tablets.

143 Drug Addicts Gathered in Nangarhar and Transferred to Kabul for Treatment

According to a press release from the Nangarhar Provincial Police Command, the Anti-Narcotics Department has gathered 143 drug addicts from various areas of Jalalabad city and transferred them to Kabul’s Omid Hospital for treatment. The press release adds that these individuals will remain under medical care at the hospital until their health condition is fully stabilized, allowing them to return to their normal lives. It is worth noting that the Anti-Narcotics Department in Nangarhar has previously transferred hundreds of addicts to Kabul for rehabilitation treatment.

Burning of 32 Tons of Expired Medicine in Nimroz

The Press Office of the Governorate of Nimroz announced in a statement that 32 tons of low-quality and expired medicine, which had been collected in recent months by the National Directorate of Food and Drugs in Nimroz, were burned by court order. The statement said, that Sheikh Mohammad Qasim Khalid, the governor of Nimroz, during the ceremony of burning these medicines, stated that the Islamic Emirate is committed to the health of its citizens and will prevent the import of expired items. However, he also emphasized that expired medicines turn into poison and no one has the right to import such items through Nimroz.

At Herat Regional Hospital, nearly five thousand surgical operations were performed in three months

Officials at Herat Regional Hospital said, that during the first three months of the current year, close to five thousand surgical operations were carried out, most of which were successfully completed. Dr. Abdulsalam Rashid, head of the hospital’s operating theater, stated that if these surgeries had been performed at private healthcare centers, the cost would have reached up to fifty thousand Afghanis. According to him, these operations include general surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, neurology, and other specialties, all successfully conducted thanks to the available facilities and specialized doctors. Meanwhile, several patients who underwent surgery free of charge expressed satisfaction with the services provided and said that if they had gone to private centers, they would not have been able to afford the treatment costs. The hospital has various specialized departments such as general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, internal medicine, and neurology, and plays an important role in providing healthcare services in the western region of the country.
