Athletes from Herat's Physical Education Department Assist Returning Refugees at Islam Qala Border
Officials from the Herat Directorate of Physical Education and Sports said that staff members of the department, heads of sports federations, and dozens of athletes traveled today to the Islam Qala border to assist Afghan refugees who have recently returned from Iran.
Mufti Abdul Rahim Rahmani, the head of the Physical Education and Sports Directorate, stated that with the help of around 50 vehicles, they transported hundreds of returnees from the border to Herat city.
He added that the department, along with various sports federations, also distributed cash assistance, clean drinking water, food items, and medicine to the returnees.
Reports added, this comes as the return of thousands of Afghan refugees from neighboring countries—especially from Iran—has recently intensified, with a large number entering the country through the Islam Qala border crossing.
