35 Residential Townships to Be Built on 120,000 Jeribs of Land for Returning Refugees
As part of ongoing efforts to address the needs of returning refugees, officials from the Islamic Emirate have announced the launch of a major housing project involving the construction of 35 residential townships across the country.
According to Mawlawi Hamdullah Fitrat, Deputy Spokesman of the Islamic Emirate, the planned townships will cover a total area of 120,000 jeribs (approximately 24,000 hectares) and will be developed in 25 provinces.
He stated that the objective of the project is to provide basic living conditions for Afghans who have returned to their homeland after years in exile.
Meanwhile, Mawlawi Fitrat added that a budget of 1.5 billion Afghanis, sourced from the government’s internal revenues, has been allocated for the implementation of this program and other refugee-related services.
Additionally, , Mawlawi Abdul Ghani Kamil, the district governor of Kohsan in Herat and head of the refugee response committees at the Islam Qala border, announced ongoing infrastructure projects at the border area.
Also he said that construction work is underway on hangars, shelters, and parking facilities to offer temporary relief to returnees. These efforts are being carried out at a cost of 16 million Afghanis.
On the other hand, several returnees who recently arrived from Iran expressed satisfaction with the government’s support initiatives. They urged the authorities to expedite the distribution of land, construction of shelters, and ensure access to healthcare, education, and job opportunities in the new townships.
This initiative comes amid a significant increase in the number of returnees in recent weeks, with thousands crossing daily through the Islam Qala border alone.
