Officials at the Herat Department of Telecommunications said, that approximately 7,500 free SIM cards are being distributed daily to newly arrived migrants by telecommunications companies.

Hafiz Khairullah Khairkhwa, Director of Telecommunications and Information Technology in Herat, stated in an interview that telecom companies, in coordination with his department, are distributing thousands of SIM cards each day at the Islam Qala border reception center and other locations.

He explained that the purpose of this initiative is to facilitate communication between migrants and their families, as well as to provide them with access to digital services.

According to Khairkhwa, all SIM cards are distributed after biometric registration, and migrants can immediately use them for calls, messaging, and internet services.

Meanwhile, Mawlawi Baz Mohammad Sarwari, head of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ATRA) in Herat, noted that telecom companies are also assisting with the provision of food packages and the transportation of migrants to accommodation centers.

Representatives from some telecom companies said the SIM cards come with free call, SMS, and internet packages to effectively meet the basic communication needs of the returnees.

The returnees themselves have expressed satisfaction with the initiative, saying that receiving a free SIM card has been a significant help in reconnecting with family and accessing important information.

It is worth mentioning that services for migrants continue daily, including humanitarian assistance, transportation to provinces, and the provision of water, bread, and healthcare, offered by the Islamic Emirate and charitable organizations.
