Successful Ascent of Balkh Mountaineers to the 1600-Meter Peak of Kariz Mountains
Ustad Momand Sarwari, head of the Mountaineering Federation of Balkh province, stated that seven climbers from the federation, under the leadership of Ustad Reza Rezai, the federation’s technical deputy, successfully ascended the 1600-meter peak of the Kariz Mountains in Nahr-e-Shahi district. This expedition was carried out with the support of the Mountaineering Federation and in coordination with the Olympic and Physical Education Department of Balkh province. It is mentionable, the Kariz Mountains are located about 25 kilometers north of Mazar-e-Sharif city, in Nahr-e-Shahi district. The area is especially known during spring as a popular destination for nature tourism and mountaineering. However, Mr. Sarwari stated that the purpose of the climb was to strengthen the physical abilities of the climbers and promote the culture of mountaineering in Balkh province.
