Traditional Wrestling Competitions Held Between Herat and Farah Provinces

Friendly wrestling competitions between the provinces of Herat and Farah were held in Herat with the participation of 100 wrestlers.

According to reports, the event was organized by the Herat Directorate of Physical Education and Sports and the Provincial Wrestling Federation, and took place at Herat’s grand traditional wrestling arena. The competition was attended by Mufti Abdul Rahim Rahmani, Head of Physical Education and Sports of Herat, sports officials from Farah and Badghis provinces, and more than 12,000 spectators.

Additionally, Mufti Abdul Rahim Rahmani stated that the matches were held in weight categories ranging from 60 to 90 kilograms, including an open-weight category, all conducted within a single day. In the end, Herat’s team secured 27 victories, Farah’s team won 6 matches, and 9 matches ended in draws.

Football Tournament Held Among Prisoners in Herat

Officials at Herat Prison have announced the organization of a football tournament between inmates and prison staff. Qari Saif-ul-Umur Waziri, head of education and training at Herat Prison, said that 10 teams comprised of prisoners and staff participated in the competition, which lasted for one and a half months. In the end, the “Block One” team won the championship title. According to Mr. Waziri, the purpose of holding such competitions is to encourage inmates to engage in sports, promote healthy recreation, and provide entertainment opportunities alongside serving their prison sentences.

Balkh climbers completed training ascent of Kariz Bala peak

Five members of Balkh province’s central mountaineering federation team, led by technical deputy Reza Rezaei, scaled the 1,800-metre Kariz Bala peak on Friday as part of a training exercise. The climb, organised with support from the provincial Olympic and Sports Directorate, was aimed at improving the athletes’ physical fitness and encouraging a culture of mountaineering and eco-tourism. It is mentionable, Kariz Bala mountains are located in Nahr-e-Shahi district, about 25 kilometres from Mazar-e-Sharif.

Afghanistan Stuns Pakistan with 18-Run Victory in Tri-Nation Series

Afghanistan’s national cricket team secured a remarkable 18-run victory over Pakistan in a thrilling encounter of the ongoing tri-nation T20I series, marking their second consecutive win after losing the first match of the series. Afghan skipper Rashid Khan won the toss and elected to bat first. Despite losing Rahmanullah Gurbaz early in the second over, Afghanistan’s batting was anchored by a solid partnership between Ebrahim Zadran and Sediq Atal. The pair put on a commanding 113-run stand, both registering half-centuries. Ibrahim scored a composed 65 off 45 balls, decorated with eight boundaries and one six, while Atal contributed a fluent 64. Their efforts powered Afghanistan to a competitive total of 170 runs. In response, Pakistan struggled to build momentum against Afghanistan’s disciplined bowling attack. The Afghan bowlers, led by veterans and young talents alike, delivered under pressure. Mohammad Nabi, Noor Ahmad, Rashid Khan, and Fazalhaq Farooqi bowled with precision and consistency, collectively restricting Pakistan and ultimately sealing the victory by 18 runs. However, the match was particularly memorable for Mohammad Nabi, who achieved a historic milestone by becoming only the second Afghan cricketer to claim 100 wickets after Rashid Khan in international T20s. He reached the landmark in his 135th match, underscoring his enduring impact on Afghanistan’s cricket journey. For his stellar batting performance, Ibrahim Zadran was named the Player of the Match, after guiding Afghanistan’s innings with maturity and flair. Additionally, this victory not only boosted Afghanistan’s confidence in the tri-nation series but also reinforced their growing reputation as a formidable side in international cricket. Afghanistan will next face hosts United Arab Emirates on Friday, where they aim to extend their winning streak and further solidify their place in the tournament.
