The Nangarhar Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock says that staff from the quarantine management at Torkham border have rejected and sent back 35 tonnes of spoiled maize to Pakistan.

According to the department’s statement, timely action by officials prevented the low-quality maize from entering domestic markets.

The department added that Director Maulvi Mohammad Wali Mohsin has urged traders to import only quality products in line with the Islamic Emirate’s regulations, warning that any company bringing in substandard goods in the future will face legal consequences.

The statement further noted that dozens of trucks carrying fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, veterinary and agricultural medicines, and other goods enter Afghanistan daily through Torkham, all under the strict supervision of the quarantine management, which does not allow substandard products into the country.
