Eye surgery campaign launched in Nangarhar


On Sunday, the Afghan Red Crescent Society, in cooperation with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Basar Charity Foundation, launched a medical campaign in Nangarhar province to conduct 400 eye surgeries, 5,000 eye check-ups, and distribute 1,000 pairs of glasses.

Mawlawi Qamar Gul Nusrat, head of the Afghan Red Crescent’s eastern zone office, said the surgeries and check-ups will be carried out free of charge by a team of experienced foreign doctors.

According to officials, the free eye treatment camp will continue for five days.

Four drug addicts recover after treatment in Samangan

Hashmatullah Rahmani, spokesperson for Samangan police, said four drug addicts who had earlier been collected from the provincial capital by the counter-narcotics department have completed treatment at the 30-bed clinic in Hazrat Sultan district and returned to their families. Mr. Rahamani added, that two other addicts have recently been taken into care and referred to the rehabilitation centre for treatment.

Dozens of drug addicts return to families after treatment in Baghlan

Baghlan police spokesperson Mawlawi Shir Ahmad Burhani said 48 drug addicts have been discharged from the provincial rehabilitation centre after completing 45 to 90-day treatment programmes and reunited with their families. He further added, that since the Islamic Emirate came to power, more than 4,000 addicts have undergone treatment in Baghlan, while a further 180 people are currently receiving care at the centre.

66 drug addicts transferred from Nangarhar to Kabul for treatment

Nangarhar police said, that 66 drug addicts were rounded up from various parts of Jalalabad city and surrounding districts by the counter-narcotics department and sent to Omid Hospital in Kabul for treatment. According to officials, the patients will remain under the supervision of specialist doctors until their health improves and they are able to return to normal life.
