A high-level delegation consisting of representatives from Afghanistan’s Ministries of Industry and Commerce, Mines and Petroleum, Agriculture, Finance, and Customs, together with officials from Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization, attended a joint meeting in the Dogharoon Free Zone.

The meeting, held to explore solutions for transit challenges, improve coordination, and reduce trade costs between the two countries, was followed by visits to the Islam Qala and Dogharoon border crossings by officials from both sides.

During the discussions, the Afghan delegation stressed the need to accelerate the movement of cargo trucks. Both sides exchanged views on creating a sustainable mechanism to ensure faster and smoother truck transit.

Mawlavi Sibghatullah Akhundzada, Head of Investment at Afghanistan’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce, described trade relations through the Dogharoon border as satisfactory, stating that there are no obstacles hindering the expansion of trade between the two countries. He emphasized that the main purpose of the visit to the Islam Qala and Dogharoon borders was to strengthen commercial relations between Afghanistan and Iran.

Meanwhile, Dr. Neisi, Assistant to the President of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization, highlighted the existing potential and stressed that both Islam Qala and Dogharoon customs require further development of infrastructure and facilities.

According to Iranian officials, the volume of trade exchanges between Iran and Afghanistan through the Dogharoon border reaches around four billion USD annually.
