Portugal to Recognize Palestine as an Independent State

Portugal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the country will officially recognize Palestine as an independent state tomorrow (Sunday, September 20).


The statement said Portugal will make the recognition one day ahead of the United Nations General Assembly session on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.


Meanwhile, nine other countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Canada, and Australia, have previously declared their recognition of Palestine as an independent state.

Trump threatened the Nigerian government with military action

U.S. President Donald Trump, in response to what he described as the massacre of Christians in Nigeria, has warned the Nigerian government that Washington may cut aid and cooperation, and that U.S. military forces could be deployed to Nigeria. Trump made this statement early today (Sunday, November 1) in a message on his social media platform, Truth Social. The former president urged the Nigerian government to stop the killings of Christians in the country and ordered the Pentagon to be prepared for a potential action in Nigeria.

Syrian President Ahmed Shar’ah is expected to visit Washington

The U.S. Special Envoy for Syria, Tom Barrack, has said that Syrian President Ahmed Shar’ah is expected to visit Washington. Reuters reported that this would be the first visit of a Syrian leader to the U.S. capital. According to a White House official, the visit is expected to take place around November 10. Meanwhile, Syrian officials have also stated that the visit is anticipated within the next two weeks.
