World leaders gather in New York for the United Nations annual meeting

The 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly will be held in New York from 22 to 30 September 2025.

Dozens of world leaders, including Ahmad al-Shara, the transitional president of Syria, are expected to attend.

The agenda of the session includes global security, climate change, the question of Palestine, the war in Gaza, and other key international issues.

Trump threatened the Nigerian government with military action

U.S. President Donald Trump, in response to what he described as the massacre of Christians in Nigeria, has warned the Nigerian government that Washington may cut aid and cooperation, and that U.S. military forces could be deployed to Nigeria. Syrian President Ahmed Shar’ah is expected to visit Washington

The U.S. Special Envoy for Syria, Tom Barrack, has said that Syrian President Ahmed Shar’ah is expected to visit Washington. Reuters reported that this would be the first visit of a Syrian leader to the U.S. capital. According to a White House official, the visit is expected to take place around November 10. Meanwhile, Syrian officials have also stated that the visit is anticipated within the next two weeks.
