Mohammad Esa Sani, the country’s Minister of Public Works, met with Oybek Usmanov, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Afghanistan, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, and infrastructure, the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

The meeting focused on enhancing transit through the strategic Hairatan port, promoting investment in the Balkh–Herat railway project, and strengthening long-term infrastructure partnerships, the statement said.

According to the statement, a key outcome of the talks was the agreement to dispatch a joint technical team to begin repairs on the “Friendship Bridge” at Hairatan, a vital trade and transport link between the two countries.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation, viewing infrastructure development as a cornerstone for boosting regional connectivity and economic growth.
