Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, announced today in a meeting with a U.S. delegation led by Adam Boehler, the U.S. President’s Special Representative for Hostage Affairs, that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has released an American citizen named Amir Amiri from prison.

Minister Muttaqi emphasized that the Afghan government does not view issues concerning foreign nationals from a political perspective and stated that diplomatic channels can provide solutions to such matters. He added that the release of the American citizen was a positive step toward progress in this regard.

On other side, the U.S. President’s representative welcomed the decision of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to release the American citizen and described the previous round of talks between the Islamic Emirate and the United States as constructive.
