Significant rise in construction in Herat amid return of Afghan refugees
With the return of over one million Afghan refugees from neighboring countries, residential housing and commercial construction has seen a sharp increase in Herat province.
Officials from Herat’s Directorate of Urban Development and Housing say that, following the return of thousands of refugees and the rise in urban congestion, a plan to rehabilitate the city’s 15 districts and establish two new districts has been approved.
Mawlavi Abdullah Akbari, head of the province’s Urban Development Department, stated that the goal of this plan is to improve urban management and prevent unregulated construction.
