Wrestling competition held with participation of 80 athletes in Shortepa district of Balkh

Hameed Gul Liwal, head of publications at the Balkh Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, said on Sunday that a local Kuresh wrestling tournament was organized in Shortepa district with the participation of 80 athletes in different weight categories. The event was arranged by local sports officials in cooperation with the Balkh Olympic Directorate of Physical Education and Sports.


Mr. Liwal added that in the competition, 10 pairs of athletes ended their matches in draws, while 30 others secured championship titles by defeating their opponents.

Today’s match began with Afghanistan batting first, setting a target of 211 runs for Zimbabwe. In response, Zimbabwe played all its overs but managed to score only 201 runs, falling short of the target. It is worth noting that Afghan player Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored the highest runs in the match with 92, followed by Ibrahim Zadran, who made 60 runs off 49 balls.

Afghanistan’s national under-17 futsal team has won the Asian Championship

Afghanistan’s national under-17 futsal team has become the champion of the 2025 Asian Youth Championship after defeating Iran. In the final match, Afghanistan’s U-17 futsal team triumphed over Iran with a score of 2–1, securing the gold medal in the tournament. Basically, this marks Afghanistan’s first-ever championship title in the history of the U-17 Asian Futsal competitions.
