Helmand police forces reported, that over the past five months, counter-terrorism units have carried out a number of operations in Lashkargah and several districts that resulted in the seizure of about 426 pieces of various weapons and military equipment.

According to police spokesman Mullah Ezzatullah Haqqani, the haul included: 188 rifles, 41 Kalashnikovs, 159 kamarshkan (belt-fed / machine-type weapons), 15 blazon (local term for a type of firearm), 1 single-barrel, 4 MP subsystems (possibly AK spare parts or variants), 3 saqilan (local term), 1 rocket launcher, 1 light weapon, 2 M16s, 1 Tikka-matic (local/phonetic rendering) and Thousands of rounds for light and heavy weapons.

Mr. Haqqani added that 75 individuals have been arrested in connection with these weapons; the suspects face legal processing and have been handed over to judicial authorities after preliminary case documentation.
