Officials at Herat Prison reported that, based on the decree of the esteemed Amir-ul-Mu’minin (Hafizullah), 160 prisoners, including women, men, and children, were released, and 162 others received reductions in their sentences.


Mullah Sharafuddin Mukhles, Director General of Herat Prison, stated that the released prisoners were those included in the Islamic Emirate leadership’s pardon.


He added that this decree was issued on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the country’s independence.


According to the Director General, the release process was carried out in the presence of a committee headed by Sheikh Ali Gul Hamidi, Chief of Herat Court of Appeals, Sheikh Sirajuddin Akhundzada, Head of Herat Criminal Court, a representative from the police command, as well as representatives from intelligence and the Department of Information and Culture of Herat.
