The Herat Provincial Public Health Department has announced the destruction by fire of over 60 tons of expired medicine and consumable products.
Officials from the department stated that the materials, which included medications and food items, were collected from pharmacies and grocery stores across the city of Herat.
According to Abdul Fattah Hamidi, Director of Monitoring and Inspection of Production Facilities at the Herat Public Health Department, these materials were collected over the past two months by public health personnel.
He noted that some of the items were substandard, and their use could have posed serious health risks to the public.
Meanwhile, public health officials are urging all pharmacists and shopkeepers not to sell expired products under any circumstances.
