Resolution 2231 has expired, and the UN Security Council’s restrictions on Iran must be lifted
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Seyed Abbas Araghchi, has said that the validity period of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 has expired and that the Council’s restrictions on Iran should now be lifted.
Mr. Araghchi shared this statement in a post on X on Friday night, (October 17).
Resolution 2231 of the UN Security Council, adopted in 2015, was the result of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 group (the United States, China, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany). The resolution was valid until October 18, 2025, under which Iran’s nuclear program was to be limited and international sanctions on the country lifted.
