In a trilateral meeting between Mawlawi Mohammad Ishaq Sahebzada, Deputy Minister of Railways at the Ministry of Public Works of Afghanistan, and officials from Iran and Turkey, held on the sidelines of the 36th Regional Meeting of the International Union of Railways (UIC) in Turkey, it was agreed that the project for constructing the Herat–Mazar-e-Sharif railway line would begin through joint cooperation among the three countries.


The meeting also agreed that extending the Khaf–Herat railway line to Mazar-e-Sharif would serve as the best route for connecting the Middle East railway network with the European network and onward to East Asia for transit purposes.


During the session, participants discussed increasing the transportation of commercial goods via the Khaf–Herat railway. Officials from the three countries described the completion and operation of this line as an important opportunity for expanding regional railway cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to facilitating transport and increasing the volume of shipments along this route.
