Khalilzad Welcomes Killing of Daesh Commander in Pakistan's Punjab

Former U.S. diplomat Zalmay Khalilzad has described the killing of a senior commander of the Islamic State Khorasan Province (IS-K) in Pakistan’s Punjab province as good news.


Last night, media reported that unknown armed individuals had killed Burhan, a key IS-K commander also known as Zaid, in the Patak area of Akhtarabad city in Punjab province.


Prior to this incident as well, several leading members of IS-K had been killed by unidentified gunmen in Pakistan.


Pakistan’s neighbours have repeatedly called on the country’s military establishment to end its support for militant groups and dismantle their safe havens.

Pakistan to Hand Over PIA to Private Sector Amid Economic Difficulties

Reuters has reported that a business consortium has emerged as the top bidder to acquire a 75% stake in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). The consortium submitted the highest bid for the national carrier. The Pakistani government said, it can no longer afford to run the airline due to persistent financial losses and therefore plans to transfer PIA to the private sector.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Ishaq Dar, has held a telephone conversation with Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi. According to a statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides exchanged views on bilateral cooperation and regional developments, and reaffirmed their commitment to close cooperation in support of regional peace and development. It is mentionable, strengthening cooperation in the areas of trade, regional connectivity and people-to-people ties was also among the key topics discussed

Pakistani traders lose more than $4 million daily

Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper, quoting exporters, industrialists and traders, reported that they are losing more than $4 million a day due to the closure of trade routes with Afghanistan. Pakistani traders said Pakistan is rapidly losing its markets in Afghanistan and Central Asia because of the continued closure of commercial routes. Meanwhile, the Islamic Emirate’s spokesman, Mawlawi Zabihullah Mujahid, said that trade routes with Pakistan would only be reopened once strong and reliable guarantees are provided by the Pakistani government.
