Turkey to host next year’s UN climate summit, with Australia taking a leading role in the negotiations
Reuters, citing sources, has reported that Turkey will host next year’s United Nations climate summit (COP31), while Australia will lead intergovernmental negotiations at the event.
According to the Reuters report, both Turkey and Australia submitted bids in 2022 to host the annual climate conference the Conference of the Parties which is the world’s most important forum for advancing climate action.
This comes as negotiations at COP30 have not yet officially concluded; a conference to which no representative from Afghanistan was invited, prompting criticism from the country’s National Environmental Protection Agency.
