Patricia McPhillips, UNESCO’s Country Director in Afghanistan, met with Mawlawi Abdullah Sarhadi, the governor of Bamiyan, to discuss the preservation and restoration of the province’s historical sites.


During the meeting, McPhillips expressed appreciation for the cooperation and full support provided by Bamiyan’s local authorities in facilitating and implementing reconstruction projects—especially in the historic city of Gholghola and the Red Fort (Qala-e Zahak). She emphasized that all UNESCO restoration programs are carried out in full coordination with local officials.


According to a statement issued by the Bamiyan governor’s office, the UNESCO director reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to continuing restoration activities in Bamiyan’s historic areas.


The governor of Bamiyan also voiced strong support for UNESCO’s projects and called for the expansion and continuation of such initiatives throughout the province.
