The Department of Rural Rehabilitation and Development in Nangarhar announced, that a new water supply network has been completed and handed over for use in Badakts area of Surkhrod district, with funding from (UNICEF) at a cost of 2.5 million Afghanis.

According to the department’s statement, the project included the construction of a 20-cubic-metre water reservoir, the drilling of an 80-metre-deep well, installation of 12 solar panels, construction of 90 water taps, and the laying of 5.6 kilometres of pipeline.

Based on reports, the project also provided short-term employment opportunities for dozens of labourers during construction. With its completion, 156 households in Surkhrod district now have access to clean drinking water.
