Significant Increase in Fresh and Dried Fruit Exports from Herat
Officials from the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment have reported a notable increase in the export of fresh and dried fruits through the province.
Mohammad Yousuf Amin, Executive Director of the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment, stated that in the first six months of the current year, over $918,000 worth of fresh fruits and $37.6 million worth of dried fruits were exported from Herat to international markets.
According to Mr. Amin, during the same period last year, the export value of fresh fruits was $21,000 and dried fruits $900,000.
He further added that this year, dried fruit exports have increased by $21 million, and fresh fruit exports have increased by more than $897,000 compared to the same period last year.
The Executive Director noted that pine nuts, pistachios, almonds, and watermelon seeds are among the exported dried fruits, while apples, sour cherries, and cherries are among the exported fresh fruits.
According to Mr. Amin, these fruits were sourced from Herat province as well as several other provinces and were exported abroad through the Islam Qala and Torghundi border crossings.
