Inauguration of Two Major Electricity Projects in Gereshk

Yesterday, in Gereshk district of Helmand province, ceremonies were held to inaugurate a 4.8-megawatt electricity generation plant and an 80-kilometer electricity transmission line extending from Sangin district to Kandahar’s Meywand district.


At the event, Dr. Abdul Bari Omar, Director General of the Electricity Department, stated that the first key project involves the construction of a strong 80-kilometer power line from Sangin to Lashkargah Durahi and onward to Meywand, with an estimated cost of around 90 million Afghanis.


He added that the second major project, the Gereshk hydroelectric plant, has a generation capacity of 4.8 megawatts and cost 38 million USD, and is now officially operational.


Meanwhile, Hafiz Hedayatullah Mohammad, head of Helmand’s electricity department, noted that during the current year (2025), numerous electricity projects for the province’s districts have been approved, including power line extensions to Kajaki, Musa Qala, Sangin, Nahr-e-Saraj, Babaji, and several other districts.

Salma Dam water released for 20 days

The Ministry of Water and Energy said, that in the presence of Sheikh Noor Ahmad Islamjar, the Governor of Herat, and Sayed Abdulsalam Mostoufi Agha, the General Director of the Harirod Zone, the Salma Dam has been opened for a period of 20 days. The ministry announced the release of water from the dam in a statement issued today (Sunday, November 2 ). According to the ministry, the purpose of releasing water from the Salma Dam is to irrigate agricultural lands and to increase the flow of the Murghab–Harirod River.

The foundation stone of the Rabia Balkhi Market was laid in Mazar-e-Sharif

In Mazar-e-Sharif city, the foundation stone for a new market named “Rabia Balkhi” was laid with a budget of AFN 18 million by the Mazar Municipality. According to municipal officials, reported by Amid Radio, the market will be constructed in two phases: the first phase will include six floors, and in the second phase, two additional floors will be added. Officials stated that the market will be built on a 1,250 square meter plot and will include parking spaces, shops, and offices, with construction expected to be completed within one and a half years. It is noteworthy that this is the second “Rabia Balkhi” market designated for men, while in Mazar-e-Sharif there is already another Rabia Balkhi market for women, where many women are engaged in business and employment activities.

The Minister of Agriculture emphasizes the importance of protecting and restoring the country’s forests

Mawlawi Ataullah Amri, the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, led a delegation to Nangarhar province and participated in a large public gathering attended by local officials and residents of the eastern provinces. In this meeting, Mr. Amri emphasized the importance of protecting and restoring forests as a national asset and stated that the ministry is striving to utilize all available resources for forest conservation and restoration. The Ministry of Agriculture added that it was decided in this gathering to hire special forest rangers in forested areas to ensure effective protection of the forests.
