Local officials in Herat said, that imports through the Khaf–Herat railway have increased five times compared to last year.

Mufti Yousuf Saeedi, spokesperson for the Herat provincial government, stated that up to 2,000 tons of commercial goods—especially cement and tiles—are transported daily via this railway to the Herat Rozanak station. Currently, the Khaf–Herat railway plays a key role in the transport of goods.

He added that unloading operations occur daily, with most imported goods consisting of cement, tiles, iron, petroleum products, and other construction materials.

At the same time, Mawlawi Bashir Mohammad Sirat, head of Herat’s Industry and Commerce Department, said that the railway is the best option for facilitating imports and exports.

He explained that land ports often face vehicle shortages, high costs, and long administrative procedures, whereas the railway can significantly reduce many of these challenges.
